Oh, 2020.

What a year, I think we can all agree.

The year a pandemic hit, businesses were forced to shut down for lengths of time, kids learning school virtually (whew, ready for that part to end!), momma's being principal, lunch lady, teacher, janitor, and trying to stay sane amidst it all, especially if still working on top of it all!

For me, this year has been whirlwind in many ways, but I wanted to look back on the TOP 3 silver linings through it all.

I had to close my studio temporarily due to a mandated shutdown and I was literally going crazy not being able to shoot sessions, use my creative outlet or work with my clients! What did I do? I started ordering BARBIES haha. My husband would walk by, there I am in the living room sewing wardrobe for them, making tiny flower crowns, tiny swaddles, built a teeny crib and little sets to photograph them like they were clients! Yes, I know this sounds crazy, but it kept me sane and ended up being so much fun. I photographed maternity, a birth in a barbie jeep, a water birth in a tub, a welcome home for a soldier's wife, newborn twins and more for the Barbie Series. It was a blast and made tons of people happy which was my goal!

The silver lining: My niece got a ton of Barbies to keep afterwards haha (mom of boys here!), and I made people smile in a tough time. :)

Every year our local magazine, Owensboro Parent, opens voting for favorite local businesses. When I found out I had won Best/Favorite Newborn & Family Photographer of Owensboro, KY...I felt insanely honored and thankful. To know so many voted for me, winning that in this tough year especially, is such an amazing accomplishment for my small business and i'm still so thankful! Seeing it in print in the magazine was extra special too!

The silver lining: Amidst tough and uncharted times...good things can come and make the whole year! 

RIGHT before Covid hit, I started something called The Rainbow Gift. After having experienced loss myself, and hearing heartbreaking stories from clients, I wanted to offer something special to bring light to one momma and hope to do this each year! I was able to gift my time, along with a gorgeous Keepsake Box of prints & all digitals to a special rainbow momma that had experienced loss, infertility then adopted their rainbow baby whom had open heart surgery at just a few days old! We had the most amazing session and captured beautiful portraits for them to forever have! 44 News also reached out and wanted to feature the story which was absolutely incredible! A few of my rainbow momma clients came in to be interviewed and talk about their own journey, and it helped get the word out for my giveaway to give more mommas the opportunity. <3

The silver lining? That we were able to do this literally weeks before the pandemic happened, and blessing an amazing rainbow momma!

I challenge you all to look back on 2020, and try to find your own silver linings...let's focus on the good things this year has brought like extra time with our family, or good things that have happened with work/business.
